Course Description
Research and literature of drama strategies and techniques for children, ages 5 through 14. Practice in leading groups of children in drama in educational settings. Prerequisite: M.F.A. Theatre majors or permission of the instructor.

By the end of this course, students will:
Form an effective drama ensemble.
Become increasingly comfortable participating in structured dramatic play.
Effectively plan, facilitate, and evaluate drama lessons.
Explore arts advocacy while developing a personal philosophy and methodology of teaching drama.
Increase self-confidence as a drama leader, facilitator, co-learner, and reflective practitioner.
Identify a variety of structures for drama lessons and recognize appropriate educational and community settings for drama.
Articulate a rationale for using drama across educational and community contexts.
Identify educational and dramatic needs within the community and design effective drama-based responses.

Attendance/Participation:
Drama is an experiential course. Your presence - physically, intellectually, emotionally, and creatively - is essential. Because this is a Community-Engaged course (Carnegie classification), we have a responsibility to our community partner. Attendance at every class is essential. NOTE: Because this is a graduate level class, all graduate students will engage in the practicum component of the course individually. Undergraduates will work in pairs.
Students are expected to:
Attend every class.
Arrive on time.
Participate actively in all course activities.
Contribute positively to the class ensemble.
There are no excused or unexcused absences.
Any absence will result in 5 points deducted from the participation grade.
Two late arrivals equal one absence.
