Course Description
Intensive study and practice of the mechanics of stage violence for advanced performance students. Focus on safe performance techniques for violence in period and contemporary texts. Prerequisite: THR 332; Drama Major.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Develop sound warm-ups and basic safety awareness
- Demonstrate increased balance and spatial awareness in partner work
- Execute safe, controlled front, back, and side falls and rolls.
- Recognize weapon styles, weapons and construction, and care techniques
- Perform safe, choreographed sequences of violence both with and without text, demonstrating proper unarmed and armed techniques within the given circumstances of the material

Attendance/Participation:
Students are expected to attend all classes. As a studio class, missing class means you will miss the demonstrations and exercises/drills for the safety techniques and choreography. The class will meet 14 times this semester. Students attending 13 or 14 will earn a 100% attendance grade. Students attending 11-12 will earn an 80% attendance grade. Students attending 10 classes will earn a 70% attendance grade. Students attending 9 classes will earn a 60% attendance grade. Students attending fewer than 9 classes will fail the course.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
Students will be responsible to purchase safety gloves for the sword work. They are available at Lowes or Home Depot and/or most drug stores. They cost between $5 and $8.
