Principles and practice of scene design for performance. Prerequisite: THR 140/THR 140L AND THR 240; or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- To interpret literary writing (stage plays, poetry) to develop 3D conceptual expressions.
- To find and manipulate relevant factual and creative research to achieve unique inspirations.
- To understand and utilize design vocabulary.
- To apply design vocabulary expressively in the critique of their own work and that of others.
- Analyze literary writing so as to structure the finding of inspirational factual and creative dramaturgical research.
- Interpret factual and creative dramaturgical research to develop creative conceptual approaches.
- Integrate relevant tools for communicating design ideas visually.
- Critique the application and expressive use of scene design as an element of stage production.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance is expected in this presentation style course and much of the course work can be accomplished in class by students who attend class regularly and make effective use of their time. There are basically 40 class meetings this semester including the Final Exam Period. Students earn 2 pts for each class attended for a total of 80 pts. Ten points are given to each student automatically and that brings the total points for attendance to 90 points.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
- “Objects” used in the creation of design visualization – fabricated, found, purchased.
- Construction materials (variable) – card stock, matte board, cutting tools, adhesives, access to copiers, etc.
