Course Description
Further develop the theatrical construction skills and knowledge necessary for advanced construction techniques and installation of scenic units. Prerequisite: THR 140/THR 140L or permission of instructor.

Goals
This studio course will assist the student in developing and applying specific skills in scenic construction methods; wood joinery; specialty tool use; stage rigging hardware & installation; stage rigging system operation
Objectives
The ability to quick sketch and breakdown scenery construction drawings for shop use
The knowledge of wood joinery beyond the standard joints used in scenic construction
The ability to build specialty scenic pieces
An understanding of stage rigging hardware and proper installation methods for safe use
The ability to tie standard rope knots used extensively in the Theatre industry
The ability to lay-out a ground plan either for load-in and/or taping out in a rehearsal studio

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes. As this is a project-based class, missing class means you will miss the demonstrations and instructions for projects.
There are 13 in-class meetings (including the first day). Students attending 12 or 13 (90-100%) classes will earn a 100% attendance grade. Students attending 11 (80-90%) classes will earn a 90% attendance grade. Students attending 10 (70-80%) classes will earn an 80% attendance grade. Students earning attending 9 (60-70%) classes will receive a 0% attendance grade. Students who attend 8 or fewer classes will fail the course.
