Course Description
Vocal technique studies focusing specifically on technique related to musical theatre vocal production. This is the third in an eight semester sequence. In the second year students should demonstrate continued development of technique as well as growth in vocal range and stamina with addition of new styles. Prerequisite: THR 119; Audition Required; Open only to those in the BFA Drama with Musical Theatre Concentration.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Continued development of technique is expected as well as growth in vocal range and stamina.
- Beginning to understand styles and vocal “type” by more efficiently incorporating acting and vocal techniques together in performance.
- Repertoire with greater vocal demands will be assigned at the discretion of instructor.
- Semester 3 – Continued technical work at appropriate level. English, Italian, German, Spanish, or French Art Song may be used as well as Musical Theatre and Pop Music.
- Minimum 5-6 songs, teacher’s discretion.
- This course engages diverse scholarly perspectives to develop critical thinking, analysis, and debate, and inclusion of a reading does not imply endorsement.
