Course Description
Qualitative research design in education, including its history, philosophy and nature. Includes discussion of types of qualitative research, assessment issues, and critical reading of qualitative research.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify and explain a range of designs included in qualitative research. What is qualitative research? What are the different ways it is conceptualized?
- Examine ethical dimensions and other issues related to qualitative research.
- Critically read qualitative research.
- Begin to design qualitative studies.
- Begin to engage in core qualitative data collection methods (i.e., observation and interviewing) and in the analysis of qualitative data.
