Course Description
Supervised in-school internship and on-campus seminar focused on applying research-based principles from educational psychology and classroom management to teaching and learning. Prerequisite: Elementary Education major or Middle Grades Education major.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Display responsivity to the background, needs, and expectations of culturally and linguistically diverse students and families.
- Design, teach, and reflect on lessons that effectively:
- Align instructional goals, activities, and assessments
- Are responsive to students from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Integrate principles of effective classroom management
- Evaluate and support your growth, success, and motivation as an educator
- Demonstrate professionalism while being immersed in the teaching profession through a variety of experiences in elementary classrooms, seminar meeting sessions, activities, and assignments.
- Examine the roles, responsibilities, and dispositions of caring, competent, and collaborative teachers.

Attendance/Participation:
You are expected to come prepared for and actively participate in all class meetings for the duration of the class time. Attendance will be taken and a grade will be assigned weekly.
Candidates are expected to be at the schools on Mondays for the duration of the school day and on Wednesdays from the start of school day until 11 AM. You will record internship activities on the internship log and your Cooperating Teacher will sign off on it. You will document your personal reflection on the back of the attendance log, and it will be reflected in your weekly internship attendance grade.
In the event of an absence, you must email your University Supervisors and Cooperating Teacher prior to the absence, schedule a makeup date with your Cooperating Teacher and record it on your internship log, and email your Cooperating Teacher and University Supervisor to document the absence and the agreed upon makeup date. Failure to do so will result in a Professional Improvement Plan.
