Course Description
This course analyzes how teachers' and students’ lived experiences affect learning environments. The course explores humanizing pedagogies that support teaching and learning for all students and provides practical knowledge for implementing these theories in elementary school classrooms. Prerequisite: ELED majors, ELC 281 or concurrent enrollment in ELC 281.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify and apply humanizing pedagogies.
- Analyze how teachers' and students' lived experiences affect learning environments and how these experiences can be leveraged during teaching and learning.
- Analyze the historical roots of contemporary education and make connections between the past and present.
- Analyze how components of the community and the school affect learning environments.
- Examine the classroom environment to include the roles, responsibilities, and dispositions of caring, competent, and collaborative teachers.
- Develop and reflect upon methods for establishing a positive learning environment during the internship.
