Course Description
In conjunction with SPA 304, this course focuses on Spanish for health care professionals, building specialized health-care-relevant vocabulary and developing skills in cross-cultural communication applicable to engaging appropriately with members of Hispanic and Latinx communities in health-care-related contexts encountered in the US. Students already have intermediate- or advanced-level knowledge. Prerequisite: SPA 204 or equivalent or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify and apply Spanish terminology regarding the digestive, renal, respiratory, and muscular skeletal systems in relation to medical specializations and different types of medications.
- Apply grammatical structures learned throughout this course.
- Assemble questions in Spanish about the general wellbeing of patients to begin interpreting medical forms.
- Analyze and argue the ethical dilemmas and different perspectives of bioethics, pharmacology, and narrative medicine.

Attendance/Participation:
Our class modality is online asynchronous. There are no required weekly virtual meetings, though you may be invited to occasional optional ones. This means that all work is completed online at your pace but must be submitted by the due date. Adapting the UNCG Suggested Academic Workload Guidelines to a 3-credit hour online course for a full semester, you should schedule at least 9-12 hours per week to work on this Spanish course.
