Course Description

Goals, methods, and evaluation in teaching and learning sociology at the college level. Students prepare course objectives and outlines, select instructional materials, and present demonstration lectures and discussions.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Design a well-structured sociology course by developing a syllabus, measurable student learning outcomes, assignments, and lectures grounded in sound pedagogical and course design principles.
  • Apply and evaluate effective teaching strategies to promote student learning in college-level sociology courses.
  • Present and reflect on teaching practice by delivering an original lecture, developing a teaching philosophy statement, and providing constructive feedback on peers' instructional approaches.

Attendance/Participation:

Your responsibility is to be in class on time and prepared to discuss selected topics. The evidence verifying your attendance will be an attendance sheet, which you must sign.

If the data reveals a pattern of absenteeism, eight (8) or more absences, then the student will automatically fail the course.

Just because a student communicates the reason for absences that does not excuse absences outside of documented health issues and serving as an ambassador for the university.
