Course Description

Course assesses the nature and extent of juvenile participation in unconventional behavior and identification with norms and values promoting delinquency. Prerequisite: SOC 222

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze the social, cultural, and psychological factors contributing to juvenile involvement in unconventional or delinquent behavior.
  • Evaluate the influence of peer groups, family dynamics, and community environments on the development of delinquent norms and values among youth.
  • Differentiate between various theoretical perspectives used to explain juvenile delinquency, including sociological, psychological, and criminological frameworks.
  • Critically assess data and research methods used to measure the extent and nature of juvenile delinquency in contemporary society.
