Social Problems in Global Context

Course Description

This course examines causes of and responses to critical social problems in different world regions with a focus on the dimensions and impacts of globalization.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Provide basic explanation of how groups of people and global systems affect one another. (MAC Global Engagement & Intercultural Learning SLO 2)

  • Identify and explain major contemporary social problems from a global perspective.

  • Apply key sociological concepts and theories to interpret contemporary global issues.

MAC Global Engagement & Intercultural Learning: In this course, student learning related to MAC Global Engagement & Intercultural Learning SLO 1 will be assessed through weekly interactive online activities on weekly topics that examine social problems through international case studies from across the globe. Student learning related to MAC Global Engagement & Intercultural Learning SLO 2 will be assessed through response papers on documentaries, in which students discuss the readings in relation to how global systems and local groups affect one another.

Attendance/Participation:

In this online course, your responsibility is to complete online lectures and participate in all the discussions, tests, and activities posted on weekly modules.
