Designed to prepare students for entrance into their professional careers. Includes portfolios, resumes, invoices, interview skills, and assessment instruments. Professional Development Plans, which incorporate practicum experiences, are constructed. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Demonstrate proficiency in dispositions, content knowledge, and interpreting/advocacy skills by participating in entry level practicum experiences which include observation, mentored interpreting/advocacy, self-directed interpreting/advocacy, professional development, and networking through exposure to diverse populations and settings. Apply tools and strategies for transitioning from student interpreter/advocate to professional interpreter/advocate including a resume, cover letter and portfolio appropriate for your field of study. (CCIE S5: F3.e; MS IV H)

Transition from student to professional interpreter/advocate by completing all Internship Prerequisites “Compliance Items” for work in various settings including education, medical, VRS, advocacy, etc. (CCIE S5; G; MS VI)
Plan and track field placement experiences and data, assessing variety and impact on learning using data tables and narrative reflection. (CCIE S5: G; MS VI) (Writing Intensive)

Course Grading Information:
How Performance Is Assessed
SLO 1: Deliberate Practice Plan (DPP) — 150 points. Use data, prior work, benchmark videos, and feedback to identify growth areas. Develop SMART goals, targeted activities, a practice schedule, and measures of progress.
SLO 2: Resource Bank (RB) — 120 points. Create an organized collection of vocabulary, skill-development, and content-area resources aligned with your concentration. Use selected resources in the Deliberate Practice Plan.
SLO 3: Field Placement Experience — 270* points. Complete at least 125 hours through observation, mentored and independent practice, professional development, and networking. Manage placement hours alongside other commitments.
SLO 3: Placement Rotations — 100* points. Complete assigned on-campus and community rotations to gain experience with diverse populations and settings through guided observation and practice.
SLO 3: Checkpoints — 200* points. Demonstrate professionalism during field placement and six checkpoints. Evaluation addresses reliability, preparedness, communication, confidentiality, boundaries, responsiveness to feedback, and respectful engagement.
SLO 4: Career Toolbox — 100 points. Create a professional email and signature, elevator pitch, LinkedIn profile, résumé, cover letter, and draft online portfolio.
SLO 5: Career Timeline — 100 points. Research employment, insurance, certification, credentialing, licensure, and workplace settings. Create a credentialing/licensure timeline aligned with career goals.
SLO 6: Career Networking — 25 points. Participate in networking and mock-interview activities to practice job-seeking and professional interviewing skills.
SLO 6: Personal Interviews — 80 points. Lead two interviews with the instructor addressing transition challenges, strengths, and examples of success. Respond to follow-up questions to strengthen interview readiness.
SLO 7: Internship Prerequisites (Compliance Items) — 120 points. Complete all compliance items required for placement in interpreting and advocacy settings.
SLO 8: Weekly Reflections (WI) — 145 points. Complete weekly reflections using placement data and narrative analysis to document and evaluate field experiences and their impact on learning.
SLO 8: Field Placement Log & Predictions Workbook — 270* points. Forecast and record placement and practice hours, opportunities, and missed opportunities. Update within 24 hours and meet requirements at all six benchmarks.
SLO 9: Peer Feedback & Mentoring — 80 points. Participate in weekly peer mentoring and present confidential field-based cases for feedback. Apply professional standards, reflective practice, and collaborative problem-solving.
SLO 10: Point Person Leadership Projects — 200 points. Lead two or three course activities by planning with the instructor, presenting information and a written guide, answering questions, and consulting as needed.
SLO 11: Advocacy Reflections (Writing/Speaking Intensive) — 120 points. Research an advocacy case, record a voice-off video summary, and reflect on the accuracy, clarity, and communication of facts, data, and resources.
SLO 12: Presentations to SES 357 (Speaking Intensive) — 160 points. With a partner, plan, promote, deliver, and evaluate an introductory presentation for SES 357 according to provided expectations.
Attendance — 80 points. Attendance is recorded each class. Unapproved late arrivals or early departures may reduce credit.
Participation — 80 points. Participate actively in classes and activities. Off-task technology use, disengagement, or disruptive behavior may reduce credit.
