Course Description
Preparation for state and national interpreting assessments; emphasis on ethical decision-making with regard to laws, best practices, policies, and Code of Professional Conduct. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Describe the various state and national assessments used to evaluate interpreters past and present.
Describe the testing components, procedures, and evaluation criteria for the National Interpreter Certification (NIC) exam.
Demonstrate competency in following the expected response procedure for the interview portion of the NIC.
Describe the testing components, procedures, and evaluation criteria for the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters Certification Program (BEI)
Describe the testing components, procedures, and evaluation criteria for the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).
Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations of interpreting, Deaf culture, linguistics of ASL, etc. by taking various written assessments.
Identify the requirements and procedures for acquiring a level of proficiency for voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpreting in K-12 educational settings and community settings.
Demonstrate a level of proficiency in interpreting voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice in a K-12 educational setting.
Demonstrate a level of proficiency in interpreting voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice in a community setting.
