Course Description
Community field experience designed to illustrate practical applications of psychological principles and research. Class meetings and written work required in addition to field placement. Prerequisite: Grade of C- or better in PSY 341 or PSY 470; junior standing; and permission of instructor; Notes: Malpractice insurance fee required for certain placements; Be advised that internship sites will require a criminal background check and/or drug test, and reserve the right to reject applicants on the basis of the results.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Students will refine their oral speaking and presenting skills by discussing their experiences every week and examining differences across the placement sites.
- Students will be exposed to career opportunities that require a background in psychology, child and youth development, or adult community mental health.
- Students will consider the impact of cultural factors on mental health through exposure to readings and class discussion.
- Students will have exposure to and/or develop practical skills used in work settings pertaining to applied psychology including some but perhaps not all of the following: observational skills, interviewing skills, understanding the purpose of data collection, assisting with preparing summaries or reports, implementing behavior plans or techniques, informal interactions with staff and clients, formal trainings or case conferences, screenings or intakes, working with confidential files, and other activities.
- Students will be provided with opportunities in class to discuss post-undergraduate plans, including possible fields for graduate study and the application process, and will develop a CV for use in the application process.
- Students will understand the difference between a resume and a CV and will have an opportunity to develop a one-page resume using tools from the UNCG Career Center.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance is required. You must be an active participant each week to earn participation points.
1.5 points for each missed class meeting will be assessed if you do not get instructor permission by 9am that Wednesday.
