Child and Adolescent Psychopathology

Course Description

Covers the etiology, developmental course, assessment, and treatment of various psychological disorders (e.g., depression, anxiety, conduct problem, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) that can arise in children and adolescents. Prerequisite: Grade of at least C- in PSY 275; concurrent enrollment in PSY 311 OR previous credit for PSY 311.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Explain the biological, psychological, and environmental causes of youth disorders.
  • Differentiate diagnostic criteria using tools like the DSM.
  • Trace how disorders manifest and change from infancy through adolescence.
  • Evaluate evidence-based interventions and therapeutic clinical approaches.
  • Critically evaluate clinical case examples and psychological research.
