Course Description

Overview of major concepts and concerns of nonprofit organizations, including tax-exempt status, incorporation, nonprofit-government relations, board-director-staff relations, volunteers, services and program planning, implementation, resource development.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Summarize values and conceptual frameworks related to the role of nonprofit organizations in a market economy and democratic society.
  • Analyze nonprofit management capacity and propose solutions.
  • Describe the major issues that have shaped nonprofit management at the practitioner level.
  • Understand important areas and methods of nonprofit management to identify best practices.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance & Participation along with contributions are worth 25% of the final grade. Please do not miss more than two class meetings for the successful completion of the course.
