Conflict Transformation at the Food-Water Nexus

Course Description

Contemporary issues at the nexus of food and water systems are examined using the lens of conflict transformation. Through this lens, we will analyze associated social and environmental conflicts, with an emphasis on dynamics of power and justice. Students will learn about transformative interventions associated with the conflicts we cover in class.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze social and environmental conflicts at the food-water nexus through theories and models of power, participatory governance, international relations, violence prevention, peace development, and conflict management;
  • Evaluate different lenses and approaches to conflict analysis;
  • Critically examine the role of conflict transformation approaches for community building;
  • Examine the transdisciplinary nature of transformative interventions.
