Course Description
Practicum for management of acute and chronic illness with emphasis on disease prevention and health promotion across the lifespan. Prerequisite: NUR 709, NUR 811, NUR 811L; Corequisite: NUR 812.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Demonstrate advanced skill in data collection, including the use of verbal communication, physical examination techniques, and selection/interpretation of diagnostic tests.
Develop and implement, with the patient, a plan of care to promote, maintain, restore, and optimize the health and functional independence of the patients across settings.
Manage a plan of care in collaboration with preceptors for patients with stable chronic health problems.
Manage a plan of care in collaboration with preceptors for patients with acute, uncomplicated illness.
Demonstrate synthesis and utilization of nursing and medical research in formulation of plans of care for patients across the lifespan.
Define circumstances under which consultation and referral are appropriate for the advanced practice nurse.

Attendance/Participation:
Clinical practicum attendance is expected according to established clinical semester hours and the practicum contract established with clinical agencies. If you will be absent on a scheduled clinical day, you must notify the clinical preceptor 24 hours prior to the beginning of clinical or alternatively as soon as possible. If you will be absent on a scheduled clinical day, you must email your assigned faculty of an absence 24 hours prior to the beginning of clinical or alternatively as soon as is possible. Unexcused absences are unacceptable. It is expected that all students will be prompt and ready to begin clinical on time.
Planned Absences:If you know you will be absent, you are required to notify the instructor via email as soon as possible and before the scheduled date of absence.
Extenuating Circumstances:In cases of emergencies or unforeseen circumstances that require your absence, please inform the instructor via email as soon as possible. Include details about the situation and, if appropriate, provide supporting documentation.
Repeated unexcused absences or failure to notify the instructor may negatively impact your grade. Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis for legitimate and documented reasons.
