Cardiovascular Pathophysiology for Nurse Anesthesia

Course Description

Focuses on the principles and theories of advanced nurse anesthesia practice necessary to effectively administer anesthesia to individuals with cardiovascular dysfunction. Prerequisite: NUR 727, NUR 732; Corequisite: NUR 754.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze the contributions of the cardiovascular system in maintaining body homeostasis.
  • Contrast the symptomatology of various forms of cardiac dysfunction.
  • Appraise the influence of cardiovascular dysfunction on the delivery of anesthesia nursing care.
  • Describe anesthetic considerations and care implications for patients with cardiovascular dysfunction in a variety of case scenarios.
  • Formulate and present an anesthesia plan of care for patients with cardiovascular dysfunction based on scientific principles of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and nursing.
