Course Description

General introduction to the basics of nurse anesthesia practice, including safety, assessment, airway management, considerations for specialized populations, crises management, substance use disorder, care plan development, and as a foundation to more advanced anesthetic concepts and techniques.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Discuss airway anatomy and management techniques.
  • Assess anesthetic considerations for specialized populations and incorporate considerations into the anesthesia plan of care.
  • Identify and treat crises in the operating room.
  • Describe risk factors, signs and symptoms, and treatment options for substance use disorder.
