Integrative Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical

Course Description

Culminating experience for psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner students. Skill refinement and responsibility in delivering comprehensive psychiatric care across the lifespan is emphasized. Through precepted practicum experiences, students demonstrate proficiency by integrating knowledge, building confidence and preparing for independent, ethical, and collaborative practice as PMHNPs. Prerequisite: NUR 691 or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Synthesize clinical knowledge and evidence-based practices to manage complex psychiatric and co-occurring conditions across various patient populations.
  • Evaluate patient progress and treatment effectiveness through critical analysis of assessment data, therapeutic outcomes, and ongoing medication management, adjusting interventions as needed.
  • Design collaborative care strategies by incorporating interprofessional consultation, ethical decision-making, and patient-centered approaches to enhance mental health outcomes across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrate advanced leadership and therapeutic communication skills when managing care coordination, interventions, and patient education in clinical environments.

Attendance/Participation:

In an asynchronous course, students are expected to identify and commit to specific times within each 7-day week to complete required activities and assignments. A student will be considered absent if they fail to participate in assignments that involve peer interaction, such as discussion board posts or group projects, or if assignments are submitted late. Late submissions may also result in a reduction in the assignment grade.
