Course Description
Nursing care of women and families along the childbearing continuum. Topics include reproductive health, promotion of health for pregnancy and birth, nursing management of complications, and newborn care. Prerequisite: Admission to M.S.N. Prelicensure Entry-Level Concentration; Corequisite: NUR 613L.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Prioritize nursing care of patients during the physical and psychological transitions associated with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
- Analyze quality initiatives, patient care technology, and safety measures that influence maternal and newborn outcomes.
- Evaluate standards of care, and emerging evidence to promote health and reduce risk for childbearing women and their newborns.
- Integrate perinatal health screenings and individualized patient education based on psychosocial needs, disparities, and cultural variations in varied care environments.
- Select strategies to optimize care coordination and transitions of care.
