Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for Nursing I

Course Description

Study of selected pathophysiologic changes that influence disease processes across the lifespan and related pharmacological therapies. Prerequisite: NUR 500, NUR 502.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Explain pathophysiologic changes at the cellular level and their relation to disease processes across the lifespan.
  • Interpret pharmacological actions of drugs as they relate to pathophysiologic disease processes.
  • Assess pharmacological therapies in the prevention and management of disease processes.
  • Examine concepts of medication safety and pharmacological effects on integrated body systems.
  • Analyze protective and predictive factors, including genetic and cultural influences, and their effects on the health of individuals, communities, and populations.
  • Appraise appropriate interventions from nursing and other interprofessional disciplines in the treatment of specific disease processes.
  • Develop patient teaching materials that can be used to inform the client of various pathophysiology and pharmacology topics.
