Community Health Nursing Concepts and Care

Course Description

Nursing concepts and care of individuals, families, and groups within community settings. Prerequisite: NUR 370 and NUR 371; overall minimum GPA of C (2.0); NURS major with RN to BSN Concentration.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze the impact of demographics and diversity on the health of families, groups, populations, and communities.
  • Plan interventions for an at-risk or vulnerable population based on the analysis of the living environment and availability of community resources.
  • Analyze the relationship between healthcare issues and health policy formation.
  • Develop strategies to promote quality and safety in the nursing care of the community.
  • Use valid and reliable resources to collect data to guide community health nursing practice for families, groups, and populations.
  • Describe collaborative leadership and advocacy to facilitate ethical, non-coercive nursing care for at-risk populations.
  • Describe the application of legal, ethical, and cultural issues to the practice of community health nursing.
  • Explain the interrelationships among theory, practice, and research related to community health.

Planned Absences: If you know you will be absent, you are required to notify the instructor via email as soon as possible and before the scheduled date of absence.

Extenuating Circumstances: In cases of emergencies or unforeseen circumstances that require your absence, please inform the instructor via email as soon as possible. Include details about the situation and, if appropriate, provide supporting documentation.

Repeated unexcused absences or failure to notify the instructor may negatively impact your grade. Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis for legitimate and documented reasons.
