Course Description

Practicum for nursing care of populations and communities through collaborative actions across care settings. Prerequisite: NUR 310, NUR 320, NUR 340, NUR 360; Corequisite: NUR 410, NUR 420, NUR 450.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Evaluate core functions of population health nursing, principles of epidemiology, determinants of health, health promotion, and disease and injury prevention.

  • Identify evidence-based nursing interventions in health promotion, health care management, health education, and health literacy for populations.

  • Apply the nursing process to vulnerable populations based on assessment of health determinants and availability of resources through awareness of health disparities.

  • Describe the application of legal, ethical, spiritual, and cultural issues to the practice of population and global health nursing.

  • Describe how healthcare policy, finance, and regulatory environments influence local, state, national, and global healthcare trends.

  • Collaborate with other professional disciplines to promote high quality and safe care of populations and global communities.

  • Analyze the relationship of the environment, health, and disease for populations and global communities.

  • Examine the nursing role in emergency preparedness and disaster response.

Attendance/Participation:
