Childbearing and Reproductive Health

Course Description

Nursing care of women and families along the childbearing continuum. Topics include reproductive health, promotion of health for pregnancy and birth, nursing management of complications, and newborn care. Prerequisite: NURS major; Corequisite: NUR 360L.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Prioritize nursing care of patients during the physical and psychological transitions associated with pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
  • Identify quality initiatives, patient care technology, and safety measures that influence maternal and newborn outcomes.
  • Utilize standards of care, and emerging evidence to promote health and reduce risk for childbearing women and their newborns.
  • Identify perinatal health screening and individualize patient education based on psychosocial needs, disparities, and cultural variations in varied care environments.
