Introduction to Health Care Informatics

Course Description

Exploration of informatics and health care technologies in the management of individuals, groups, and organizations for the improvement of patient outcomes. Prerequisite: Must be licensed Registered Nurse; minimum GPA of C (2.0), or permission of instructor.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Analyze current and emerging technologies to optimize safety, cost effectiveness, and health outcomes.
  • Utilize select theories that guide the application of informatics in healthcare and health education.
  • Analyze policies that incorporate ethical principles and legal standards in the use of health and information technologies.
  • Discuss future trends and issues related to nursing informatics that support and influence the science of nursing informatics.
