Health and Illness in Infants, Children and Adolescents

Course Description

Nursing care and health promotion of infants, children, and adolescents with acute and chronic illness, special health care needs, and those receiving well child care. Prerequisite: NURS major; Corequisite: NUR 340L.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Apply principles of health promotion and child development in the care of children in a variety of settings.
  • Prioritize nursing care for children and their families.
  • Provide safe, cost-effective nursing care in collaboration with members of the healthcare team.
  • Examine the integration of evidence-based practice, quality improvement and clinical standards into the nursing care of children and families.
  • Demonstrate caring, competency, sound clinical judgement, accountability, and professionalism in the nursing care of children and families in the healthcare setting.
  • Communicate effectively through culturally competent family centered care.
