Scientific Integrity

Course Description

Explores contemporary issues related to scientific integrity and responsible conduct in research. Case-driven topics expose students to the issues that arise in scientific research and ways to handle these issues. Prerequisite: Student at UNCG or JSNN or Permission of Instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Understand that a competent scholar should be capable of conducting original and independent research.

  • Understand that doing good science requires responsible conduct and integrity.

  • Be aware of the ethical norms and regulatory issues that constitute responsible conduct of research (RCR).

  • Remain sensitivity to and appreciation for ethical issues associated with conducting research.

  • Define and identify “conflict of interest” and “research misconduct”.

  • Be familiar with the laws, regulations, and policies and professional guidelines that govern the conduct of research.

  • Be familiar with the professional and University resources for addressing ethical issues.

  • Gain the abilities for resolving ethical conflicts.
