Course Description
The lower division sound studies seminar develops attentive listening skills and examines different sound and perception theories drawn from traditions around the globe. A variety of oral communication skills and methods are developed and practiced.

- Demonstrate appropriate and ethical oral communication messages for given contexts and communicators to increase knowledge, foster understanding, and/or promote change.
- Analyze and evaluate messages according to context, audience, intent, and other principles of oral communication, to contribute to the ongoing development of knowledge and relationship.
Music Objectives
- apply listening skills to a wide variety of sonic contexts.
- connect examples, facts, or theories from more than one music discipline/field.
- discuss the musical characteristics sound/music using proper vocabulary.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance is required. Participation includes contributions to the class in small assignments, engagement in class discussion, evaluating class speakers and adequate preparation for class.
