Course Description
Facilitate the progressive development of voice students through advanced and comprehensive study of repertoire and performance techniques, focusing primarily on diction, style and interpretation. Prerequisite: MUP 651 or higher standing in Performance Studies and permission of Vocal Area Coordinator; Corequisite: MUP 651 or MUP 751; Notes: May be repeated for credit.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Demonstrate skills to perform and artistically express musical ideas through repertoire appropriate for the individual’s musical journey.
- Explore piano literature and performance practice by composers within the traditional western canon and beyond.
- Apply pedagogical concepts discussed in lessons to the performance setting.
- Manage performance anxiety concerns and understand how to overcome physical and mental obstacles.
- Succinctly offer, receive, and/or respond to critical feedback on peer’s performances.
- Foster an environment of positive community for growth and support.
- Demonstrate skills in performance/audition preparation and artistic self-expression at a level appropriate for the particular music concentration.
- Apply pedagogical concepts in the performance medium.
- Offer, receive, and/or respond to feedback.
- Express artistic/intellectual goals of their performances based on contextual knowledge, knowledge of self, and understanding of their intended audience.

Attendance/Participation:
Attendance is expected at every repertoire class. As a pass/fail course, students are expected to perform at least twice each semester and provide comments for peer’s performances to pass the course.
Course Materials Purchased by the Students:
Students are required to purchase and/or use the UNCG libraries for vetted and well-researched editions of sheet music (digital or hardcopies) needed for lessons.
