String Technique

Course Description

Students will prepare and perform works as assigned from the large repertoire of technical exercises and methods for their primary string instrument. Peer feedback and discussion of pedagogical topics will be a focus of the class. Students should expect significant technical growth.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Assemble appropriate technical exercises for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students.
  • Interpret the various texts and teaching methodologies presented in the standard technique books for their instrument.
  • Develop pedagogical skills through feedback on peers' performance
  • Perform with precision all exercises assigned.
  • Evaluate their own performance and develop a plan of steps to improve.

Attendance and Participation are graded components of this course.

Course Materials Purchased by the Students:

Students are required to either purchase or use the UNCG libraries for all digital/sheet music presented for performance/evaluation, and any equipment or accessories required for performance by the instructor.
