Advanced Instrumental Conducting

Course Description

Topics include advanced non-verbal and gestural communication concepts, methods of score study, self-evaluation and reflection, critical listening, and application of leadership skills and rehearsal techniques in varied performance settings. Prerequisite: MUE 472 or equivalent; Music majors only.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Students will develop the expressive use of gesture and non-verbal communication.
  • Students will develop the ability to analyze, internalize, and prepare a score.
  • Students will form skills for self-evaluation based on physical awareness, aural feedback, and video review.
  • Students will cultivate critical thinking and leadership skills within the context of an ensemble rehearsal or educational environment.
  • Students will identify a larger body of quality instrumental literature.
