Survey of current piano teaching philosophies, methods, and materials and their application for private and group instruction. Supervised teaching of beginning piano students. Prerequisite: Keyboard principal or major or permission of instructor

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Dive into the exciting field of Piano Pedagogy with a focus on teaching Beginner and Elementary levels.
- Learn about organizations that support the professional development of Piano/Keyboard teachers, and provide opportunities for students of varying ages and abilities.
- Learn about some of the key figures and concepts of Learning Theory, and explore how they relate to effectively teaching the Piano/Keyboard.
- Understand the basics of Group Keyboard Pedagogy.
- Gain insight into teaching Beginner and Elementary level keyboard students.
- Learn about some of the most widely-used resources available to teachers of Beginner and Elementary keyboard students.
- Observe and learn from local piano teachers working with Beginner and Elementary level students.
- Reflect on how technology and societal changes play a role in the bigger field of music education.
- Learn bonus tips–at the conclusion of many class meetings–that are not included in most pedagogy resources!
