Course Description

A workshop class where pedagogy of the performance medium is discussed and works of musical literature are performed, coached, and discussed. Corequisite: MUP 151 or MUP 152 or MUP 251 or MUP 252 or MUP 351 or MUP 352 or MUP 451 or MUP 452; Notes: May be repeated as often as the student is co-registered for performance studies instruction; Grade: Pass/Not Pass (P/NP).

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate skills in performance/audition preparation and artistic self-expression at a level appropriate for the particular music concentration.

  2. Apply pedagogical concepts in the performance medium.

  3. Offer, receive, and/or respond to feedback.

  4. Express artistic/intellectual goals of their performances based on contextual knowledge, knowledge of self, and understanding of their intended audience.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance is expected at every repertoire class. As a pass/fail course, students are expected to perform at least twice each semester and provide comments for peer’s performances to pass the course.

Course Materials Purchased by the Students:

Students are required to purchase and/or use the UNCG libraries for vetted and well-researched editions of sheet music (digital or hardcopies) needed for lessons.
