Course Grading Information:

Activity/Performance Measure Percentage/Points
Lessons will be graded weekly and averaged for the semester to constitute 50% of the total semester grade. Weekly grades will be evaluated on the student’s preparation of assignments, bringing appropriate materials to lessons, and punctuality. Unexcused absences will not be made up and will be treated as a failing grade for that week. Each student’s lesson grade will be based on the ten (10) highest lesson grades for the semester, and must have had at minimum twelve (12 hours) of individual applied lessons. A minimum of fourteen (14) lessons will be offered by the instructor, understanding that applied lessons do not meet during the sixteenth week of classes. 50%
Participation and Attendance will constitute 30% of the total semester grade. Percussion students are required to attend all percussion recitals and clinics presented throughout the semester. Additionally, percussion students will perform in Studio Class at least once per semester. 30%
Jury The jury grade will constitute 20% of the total semester grade. The jury panel will determine this grade. Those students who pass a recital hearing and successfully perform a recital during the semester will be credited for the 20% for the Jury portion of the grade. The instructor has the option to consider other recitals as a jury exemption. It is the responsibility of each student to provide copies of the completed jury sheet and music before their jury time. 20%

The midterm grade period occurs each semester between the fifth and sixth week of classes. During this time, I will assign you a midterm grade for this course, which you can access in UNCGenie.

Your midterm grade in this course is a snapshot of how you are currently performing academically based on the assignments we have had to date. It will let you know if you are on the right track or if you need to take action to do something differently to improve your grade. If you have a D or an F at the midterm, we should definitely talk further about strategies and options for continuing in the class.

You can find more information about midterm grades on Spartan Central. Once midterm grades are assigned, reach out to me if you have questions. You should also talk with your academic advisor if you are considering withdrawal from this class.
