Performance Studies: Piano

Course Description

Performance studies instruction for non-majors or majors on secondary instrument/voice. Prerequisite: Admission as a Music major; or special permission of Department; enrollment in two (2) or more s.h. requires coregistration in an ensemble; Notes: May be repeated for credit if different instrument.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate technical skills requisite for artistic self-expression in performance at a level appropriate for the particular music concentration.

  2. Apply an overview understanding of the repertory to performances from a cross-section of that repertory.

  3. Demonstrate the ability to sight read with fluency.

  4. Demonstrate both general musicianship and a level of skill relevant to professional standards.

  5. Develop a practical knowledge of pedagogy at a level appropriate to the degree.

  6. Construct artistic/intellectual goals that are evident in their work.

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance is mandatory at every scheduled lesson. Each missed lesson without prior notice will result in a failed lesson grade for that week.

Course Materials Purchased by the Students:

Students are required to purchase and/or use the UNCG libraries for vetted and well-researched editions of sheet music (digital or hardcopies) needed for lessons.
