Course Description
Laboratory instruction in piano. Offered as piano skills preparation for music majors whose major or principal area is not piano. MUP 131, first level; MUP 132, second level; MUP 133, third level. Prerequisite: MUP 131; MEDU, PRFM, or MUSI major; or permission of instructor based on piano placement exam results.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Build upon skills acquired in MUP 131 that will support students’ ability to function as competent, confident, and successful musicians.
Demonstrate the ability to analyze music theory and aural skills at the keyboard.
Transfer skills learned at the keyboard to their primary instrument/voice.
Analyze and perform repertoire, ensemble pieces, technique, transposition, harmonization, and sight-reading.
Understand and implement healthy playing habits at the keyboard.
Create improvised music based on basic chord progressions and blue scales.
Harmonize melodies based on major and minor scales and diatonic triads.

Attendance/Participation:
Regular attendance is vital to your success in learning to play the piano and passing the course. Attendance is taken at each class and is worth 15% of your total grade. If you are tardy, leave early, and/or do not have the proper materials for class, you will receive half credit for that class.
