Course Description
The jazz masters and significant jazz recordings of the 20th century will be introduced; these recordings will range from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane. Aural recognition will be developed. Prerequisite: Music major

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Become a more active listener, through jazz masters and significant recordings of the 20th century; ranging from Louis Armstrong to John Coltrane
- Assess jazz music's elements by direct active listening: this is aural recognition
- Describe a piece of music in verbal or written form, demonstrating aural recognition

You must pass in your work in person, in class, and on time, or early. If you miss an assignment you have until 7 calendar days to pass it in, at a lower letter grade. One week after the assignment is due, it will not be accepted and will be graded as a zero. More than two unexcused absences will amount to a lower grade, at the distraction of the instructor.
