Overview of current practice in learning and teaching music with emphasis on the development of practical strategies for implementation within music classrooms and studios of all types.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
Students must be teaching during the MUE 657/757 semester (classroom, studio, private lesson, or community setting).
The student will consider the intersections between music teaching and learning philosophy, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment.
The student will deepen their critical reflexivity with regard to their individual teaching practice—specifically in relation to a chosen topic/area for growth.
The student will engage in reflective exercises individually, with peers, and with the instructor focused on their teaching practice.
The student will strengthen threads between their teaching practice, research/scholarship, and professional learning.
The student will explore specific research topics (related to music teaching and learning) that intersect with the student’s individual pedagogical interests.
The student will observe and reflect upon the teaching practice of other educators/instructors.

Attendance/Participation:
Given the online and asynchronous nature of this course, typical attendance policies do not apply. That said, students’ individual and collaborative work depends on students’ consistent (and timely) engagement with course assignments. Many assignments and discussion posts rely on peer collaboration, thus requiring each student to actively meet assignment deadlines posted in the course syllabus.
