Media Thesis Production

Course Description

This capstone course is designed to bring together ideas, processes, practices, and theories in the service of the production of a substantial work of cinema. Students will pursue an entire project from conception to completion, combining intensive preproduction, production, and post-production with in-depth instruction on lab work, distribution, and exhibition. Prerequisite: Media Studies major; Senior standing; or permission of instructor.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  1. To develop and experiment with one’s own creative voice through a challenging engagement of conventional cinematic practices in all genres.

  2. To learn how to provide constructive feedback through active discussion of peer work.

  3. To develop the facility to speak and write about one’s work through direct engagement with contemporary debates on the art of cinema.

Attendance/Participation:

Regular class attendance is a responsibility and a privilege of university education. It is fundamental to the orderly acquisition of knowledge. Students should recognize the advantages of regular class attendance, accept it as a personal responsibility, and apprise themselves of the consequences of poor attendance.

It is your responsibility to keep in contact with me if you will miss class.

You may have two absences (excused or unexcused) before your grade begins to drop. All unexcused absences after 2 will drop your final grade by 5 points per absence (based on 100 possible points). Any additional absences after 5 could result in the student being removed from the course or failing it.
