Course Description

Principles of light and color in lighting for television and film production. Application of the equipment and accessories used in the execution of lighting design through practical projects. Prerequisite: MST 271.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Critique lighting in single camera video for appropriateness and effectiveness including identifying the sources and qualities of light employed
  • Set up and operate lighting equipment for both studio and field applications and understand the range of single camera video lighting styles
  • Design lighting plots and write descriptions for both studio and field applications

Attendance/Participation:

Attendance is required. For classes meeting twice weekly, two absences are allowed without penalty. Each additional absence may result in a one-half letter grade deduction.

Students are expected to arrive on time, remain through strike/cleanup, and participate professionally in all class activities.

Course Materials Purchased by the Students:

Students may need modest production materials such as gels, diffusion, props, or costumes depending on project needs.
