Course Description
Analysis of persuasive media and examination of radio, television, and Internet advertising techniques with emphasis on developing writing skills for electronic media advertising and promotional campaigns.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Identify examples and purposes of copy, as well as the components that make it effective or destructive.
- Generate engaging, effective copy for various purposes and audiences, and in multiple formats.
- Exchange substantive critique with peers on written work and participate meaningfully in the revision process.
- Explore careers within copywriting and/or develop strategies for clear written communication applicable to an existing career trajectory.
- Compile a polished copywriting portfolio showcasing a range of tones, purposes, and techniques.

Attendance/Participation:
This course meets in person once a week. All students are allowed to miss two classes, for any reason, without incurring a grade penalty. Unless you have accommodations that include attendance flexibility, each absence beyond these first two will result in a 7-point deduction, per absence, from the student's 100-point attendance/participation grade.

For in-person class sessions: Please bring paper (either in a spiral-bound notebook you’ll use for this class, or a binder with plenty of blank loose-leaf paper) and a writing utensil.
