Principles of Innovation

Course Description

Explores the concept of innovation in various contexts, including technology, business and social change. Students will examine the process of innovation, the role of creativity and the impact of innovative practices on society and industries. Students will develop skills to foster innovation and think critically about its implications. Prerequisite: Junior standing. Enrollment is restricted to students who are Pre admitted to or admitted to majors in the Business School (PACC, ACCT, PBAD, BADM, CARS, PCYB, PCYM, CYBE, CYMA, ECON, PECO, ECOS, PENT, ENTR, PFIN, FINC, PHTM, HTMT, PHUR, HURM, PINT, INTB, PISC, ISSC, PMKT, or MKTG).

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Understand the process and product of innovation.
  • Relate the innovation process to value in business strategies, decisions, and performance.
  • Understand the positive human capacities for deep insight, collaboration, and innovative problem-solving.
  • Explore various applications of generative AI (e.g., text generation, image creation) to improve written communications and presentation of new innovations
  • Employ multiple forms of verbal and written communication strategies that result in effective messaging for the audience, for purpose, and for the situation.
  • Develop strategies for integrating AI into innovation processes and driving innovation in various fields.
  • Develop skills to conceive, research, prototype, and design innovations using creativity, collaborative teamwork, holistic thinking, and strategic business decision-making
