Educational Implications of Learning and Developmental Theory

Course Description

How learning and developmental theories define the teacher's role as instructional leader, how curricular materials might be designed and used, and student learning and motivation. Note: Same as TED 669.

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Describe, compare, and contrast the basic principles of several learning and developmental theories, such as:
    • Behaviorism
    • Cognitivism
    • Constructivism
  • Apply learning and developmental theories when designing lessons, teaching, and assessing student learning.
  • Apply motivational theories to increase student engagement and improve learning.
  • Describe ways to address accessibility and individual differences in lesson design, instruction, and assessment.
  • Reflect on your own professional practice as an educator or instructional designer.
