Course Description

Planning, evaluation, and administration of programs and services designed to meet the needs of individuals and groups of children and adolescents; current issues in public libraries.

Syllabus

Student Learning Outcomes, Goals, Objectives:

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Plan, budget, and justify programs for youth from infancy to young adulthood, culminating in a portfolio of program proposals.
  • Synthesize content from readings with personal observations by self and classmates in order to increase and demonstrate understanding of library issues, resources, and best practices in youth services.
  • Establish and explain standards for public Storytime events.
  • Consider patron interactions in the context of one’s own “bubble” as compared to the circumstances of up-and-coming generations.
  • Identify and advocate for resources for homeless and at-risk youth.
  • Critically analyze current issues in library services for youth.
  • Recommend job search, resume, and interview methods
