Course Description
Emerging technologies in libraries including local regional, national, and international communication systems for information transfer as these trends impact delivery of information to library and information center users.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Develop a knowledge of technological tools, costs, and issues raised by the use of technologies in libraries and schools, [PLO: 1].
- Examine the ethical and legal issues related to the technologies discussed, [PLO: 1].
- Develop strategies for assessing user needs in relation to such technological systems in terms of knowledge seeking behaviors, training needs, and format conversions, [PLO: 2, 3].
- Review ongoing research and standards development related to current technological trends in libraries and information agencies, and [PLO: 1].
- Study current and developing implementations of such systems locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. [PLO: 2].

| Assignment 1: Using a tracker-detection tool, examine the trackers present on the selected websites. Identify trackers that appear across multiple sites and describe what data they collect. | 6% |
| Assignment 2: Develop a program with Delightex that supports the development of information literacy competencies in a defined user population. | 20% |
| Assignment 3: Visit a public library, school library, or community organization and investigate a need or issue affecting the community it serves. Using demographic data, produce a statistical report and an accompanying GIS map that documents and analyzes that need. | 15% |
| Assignment 4: Identify how bias enters through training data and discuss its implications. | 15% |
| Assignment 5: Develop a mobile application concept that supports the development of information literacy competencies in a defined user population. | 10% |
| Participation/Professionalism: Students are expected to actively engage in discussions in class, share their point of views, respond to and answer questions posted by their classmates, attend synchronous class meetings, and join in-class activities. | 34% |
