Computer Technologies for Information Management

Course Description

Essential computer-related technologies in a library/school/information agency environment. Prerequisite: LIS 600 or permission of instructor.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:

  • Explain basic computer concepts (hardware/software) and network topologies, [PLO: 1]
  • Describe basic hardware and software used in libraries today, [PLO: 1]
  • Discuss the role of computers and related technologies in libraries, [PLO: 1]
  • Examine important components in a Request for Proposal document, [PLO: 1, 3]
  • Evaluate a typical integrated library system (ILS), [PLO: 1]
  • Propose a grant application for technology acquisition, [PLO: 1, 2, 3]
