Course Description
Prepares students to access, evaluate, and manage information to meet personal and academic needs. Focuses on personal information management, digital security/privacy, and ethical issues, including plagiarism, source citation, and fair-use. Prerequisite: Must have fewer than 60 credits to enroll or can enroll by Written Permission.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
- Develop academic skills in order to demonstrate the ability to identify and use campus services and resources (e.g., library, Writing Center, Speaking Center). (MAC)
- Develop goals and plans related to personal purpose, interests, or values between self and community. (MAC)

- Critically evaluate information and media sources in a variety of format(MAC)
- Incorporate and cite sources accurately and correctly. (MAC)
- Write in genres appropriate to the discipline(s) of the primary subject matter of the course. (WI)
- Describe the changes that have transformed the way we create, consume and share information.
- Demonstrate essential principles for being an effective information consumer.
- Identify, select and use tools for identifying high quality information sources.
- Apply appropriate criteria to critically evaluate the quality of information sources and the arguments contained in them, with particular attention given to weighing competing claims.
- Employ a “slow” media consumption approach.
- Effectively organize and manage information for personal and academic use.
- Describe techniques for preserving personal digital security and privacy.
- Select and use information effectively to provide evidence for an argument.
- Use information ethically.
- Effectively convey the information evaluation process in writing.
- Effectively convey information in a visual format.
